About
Program Director’s Personal Statement and Purpose
I worked at a care facility as a Designee since 2001. In October of 2001, afterwards I was hired as a Program Administrative Assistant at a local day program. My experience was enhanced because of my willingness to learn and be of service to the developmentally challenged who needed my care. In my three years of work at the program I was able to show my enthusiasm as a team player and a leader. I learned to appreciate the small joys that my consumers shared with me in my daily interaction with them.
My being a detail-oriented person, my excellent inter-personal and communication skills with the public brought me from the position of Program Administrative Assistant to becoming a Program Director of the program. As I move to different professional endeavors, I applied myself diligently to gaining a foundation that strengthened my managerial and business skills. However, my intent to serve people with developmental disabilities grew even stronger and stronger as I traveled through various career endeavors.
Following this growing intent to serve and advocate for people with developmental disabilities, I plan to go back to the job that has given me more self fulfillment. I have decided to go back to my human service job to take part in the daily lives of special people who have been part of my life.
My previous interaction with the staff, clients, care providers and service coordinators made me realize that I would be able to serve them better if I developed a program myself which would be very well suited to every clients’ needs. Advocating for services for individuals with developmental disabilities, as a pathway, encompasses many aspects which I hope to attain.
